Penumbral Lunar Eclipse

There will be a penumbral lunar eclipse can witnessing the Sri Lankan on May 26th 2021, where the Vesak Full Moon Poya day. During a lunar eclipse, the moon moves through the earth's shadow because our planet the Earth place directly between the Sun and the Moon. In a total lunar eclipse, the Moon and Sun are directly opposite sides of the Earth and the Moon is completely shrouded in the earth's shadow, whereas a partial lunar eclipse occurs when only a part of the moon moves into Earth’s shadow. In Colombo, Sri Lanka, the moon rises at 6:23 p.m. local time on May 26, and the penumbral eclipse ends at 7:19 p.m. local time.


The total lunar eclipse starts once the moon is completely inside the umbra. And the moment of greatest eclipse happens with the moon is halfway through the umbra, as shown in this graphic. (Image credit: NASA)
